More On Your Tootsies

Keeping up with callouses is a big job for a summer girl in ministry. Walking around barefoot is fun and relaxing but leave big, dirty, ugly pads on our paws.

Someone asks about Beauty Shop products. I like them fine, although I avoid the store in general because it's so heavily scented it makes PeaceBang feel as though she's swimming through some kind of mango-lavender-dewberry nightmare. I like their Hemp hair products for frizzled locks (although it smells rather earthen and patchouli-ish, and I don't like that), and I love their body butters. I plug my nose, run in real fast, and snap some of those up, along with their delicious lavender bath milk.

As for your tootsies, foot scrubs alone won't do it. You've got to get yourself something like this:

foot file

and use it on damp feet. Wet the pumice a tiny bit and rub away. If you're like PeaceBang, you'll find a sick fascinating watching all that dead skin come off.

PeaceBang prefers the pumice file on white plastic, as she can manhandle it even more severely, but the one shown in the photo should do. And I believe they carry both at Body Shop.

I have a paddle much like that that I got in St. Louis when a friend and I went for pre-GA pedicures - it's nothing short of magic. I had a small plastic one before, and it sucked.

Ah yes, the paddle. It is a heavenly thing, yes? I love that baby's butt softness of the heels after a good scrub down with the pumice paddle.

I haven't tried the Body Shop body butters -- perhaps I ought to do so....

Peacebang,
I followed your instructions and toned down my pedicure toe polish from brights to a ministerial neutral. I feel unsure of my toes and hardly recognize my own feet. I'll go to worship tomorrow with neutral toes in sandals (beautiful girlie sandals, not flip flops are stumpy good-for-my-feet ones).
Hanging on every word,
Me

Oh, St. Cass, you gave up your "I'm not a waitress Red"??

But, I suppose the guru PeaceBang knows best :)

Aola and St. Cass, we ALL love "I'm Not Really A Waitress" by OPI, but that's what Mexican vacations are for, or Christmastide. Or closed shoes in church with the blood red toes peeping out on your own time.

Congratulations, Cass. I know it's hard. I myself have a violently orange-pink-red shade on my fingernails right now just for the fun of the summer.

Again, toes and fingers are different. I don't care what you wear on the fingies. But if the toes are bare, I think they should be fairly neutral.

Interesting thoughts on toe color. When I chose the color for my pre-General Assembly pedicure, the initial color was a very light pink neutral, just a shade different from my fingers. But the ladies at the salon said I should go brighter for the toes and I went for a coral pink. So, PB, the toes should be neutral? Is there wiggle room for color? (If you recall the color I wore in St. Louis, any thoughts?)

Jen, I thought your toes were cute. They were a gentle coral shade. The shades I'm talking about are like you just ripped an ox apart with your bare hands, or like the violently pink-red I've got on now. Anything that makes the eye ZOOM to the toes is just too distracting. Again, I'll never forget my experience at the Montreal Cathedral when the women acolytes walked down the aisle in the ancient albs carrying the ancient symbols of the Church and flashing outrageously orange toenails. It just looked stupid and tacky and left me thinking all kinds of sexist thoughts.

P.S. Don't feel you have to listen to the manicurists about nail styles. They'll try to convince you that French manicures are still in, because they're more expensive. Or worse yet, they'll try to get you to do French style on your TOENAILS. Can you say Heinous Princess Bridezilla?

Generally women do wear a brighter shade on the toes, but I'm not a general.

I saw for the first time just a couple of days ago a young lady with french tips on her toenails... it was very strange looking.. reminded me of the woman in "Aeon Flux" who had had a transplant of hands where her feet should be.
