The Rev. Mrs. Doubtfire (Black Flat Search)
Probably super comfortable, but I envision myself dressed in a worsted wool sweater and pouring tea for the vicar. I don't think so.

But they're looking at your face, not your feet!
I know, we have to find shoes that are elegant, but comfortable.
They do much better on this score in Europe. Can you find a store with imports? (Like the Walk Shop in Berkeley :-)) (Surely there's a Boston equivalent.) though I see that they now have www.walkshop.com/ and that if you scroll down you can click on "online store." You'll probably like some of the Beautifeel shoes, they have a sleeker line than many of the others.
Actually, I think you're looking at these the wrong way. I see the Robin-Williams-in-drag hit you're getting off these, but imagine them instead with sheer black textured tights, a black flippy skirt with a little color (I'm thinking piping) and a blouse that picks up that color and runs with it. Could work, methinks.
Henrietta (but not Hippo)
Definitely Marian the Librarian. Not your type, hon.
These shoes look like they were made by Ikea.
